Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.

Modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700s and the development of Swedish massage, the first systematic method of therapeutic massage based on physiology. Today’s Massage Therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern Massage Therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.

Your Treatment

After completing a detailed health history form, your massage therapist will ask you some general questions to determine if there are any health conditions which need to be addressed, and to establish what areas of your body you would like worked on.

Your Massage Therapist must also obtain your consent to work on any part of your body, regardless of whether you are fully clothed, or fully or partially covered with sheets or blankets. Your privacy will always be respected, and you may withdraw your consent for treatment at any time.

Various specialized movements of the hands, over the skin or clothes, make up the Massage Therapy treatment. The Massage Therapist will work with your level of pain tolerance during the treatment, and the treatment can be stopped at any time should the treatment become uncomfortable.

Any personal and health information you provide to your Massage Therapist is completely confidential and will be safeguarded. Your health record cannot be released or transferred without your written consent.

Spa Etiquette

Silence your Cell Phone

Please refrain from talking on your cell phone while in Refine Wellness and please put your ringer on silence mode.  This helps maintain a relaxing and calm environment for all clients.

Quiet Voices Please

We try our best to provide a quiet environment for our massage therapy treatments.  We ask that you speak in a quiet voice when at the front desk or walking through the clinic hallways as a courtesy to others having their treatments.

Cancellation Policy

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy.  If you are unable to provide this notice, we will charge you 50% of the missed appointment fee.  We often have a waiting list and if given enough notice, we can fill the appointment.  If you have an emergency, please let us know so that we can treat your specific situation with personal attention.  We do not consider work conflicts to be emergencies.  This cancellation policy is necessary for our small business to continue to serve our clients in need of treatment, and also to make massage therapy a feasible career for our therapists.  The Massage Therapists practice a maximum of 4 – 5 hours per day so that you can be sure to get high quality treatment and so that they can stay healthy and injury free.  One missed appointment out of 5 appointments has a significant financial impact.  Please call the clinic to cancel an appointment.  Thank you for understanding.
